Advocacy

CCARC is a committed advocate for people with mental retardation and other needs. It is involved with several trade organizations, teaches young parents how to work in the special education system, provides advice for self advocates, and offers opportunities to inform the community at large about the abilities and talents of persons with disabilities.

It is important to CCARC that when issues that impact us, as well as those we serve, come to the forefront, we work together to have our voices be heard. With that in mind, we will use this Web site and a portion of our newsletter to make those issues known to you and the ways you can help. Whether it’s sending a letter or an e-mail or making a phone call, our Legislators and Governor need to know what kind of impact they are having on the services we provide.

We are developing an e-mail alert list to bring these issues to the attention of our constituents. If you would like to be added, please send an e-mail to CCARC at ccarc@ccarc.com and include “Alert List” in the subject line.

Self advocacy is also encouraged through involvement in “Yes I Can,” a group comprised of individuals with disabilities who help each other take charge of their lives, work for justice and fight discrimination.
